Hagenmarkt, Braunschweig

The Hagenmarkt is located in the city center of Braunschweig and, in addition to its function as a place to stay, is primarily known as a traffic junction and crossroads in the city. A large part of the existing trees was destroyed by the storm "Xavier" in 2017. The competition is looking for a design that is suitable for implementation for the subsequent planning and participation process. Concept: The new Hagenmarkt sees itself as a modern, green town square. The essential premises of the redesign are the staging of the significant Heinrich fountain and the establishment of a connection to St. Catherine's Church. A restrained green hem structures the square and protects its middle. A new piece of urban furniture complements the ensemble: The "Hagener Stadtbühne" as a reminiscence of the former opera house will in future be a meeting place and a offer for activities for a diverse urban society.
